OUR COMMITMENT
At Belamer, we are committed to the highest ethical standards in all aspects of our business and product supply chain. We produce all our pieces locally and we only work with European suppliers who we believe in and share our commitment to sustainability and transparency.
RESPONSIBLE MATERIALS
Textiles are a fundamental part of our creation process. When choosing the most appropriate materials for our designs, we carefully evaluate their environmental impact.
Recycled Fibres
All of our swimwear is made from high quality regenerated nylon, a sustainable fabric made from marine and post-consumer waste.
The process of manufacturing with this type of recycled fibre requires less water and energy. By recovering these materials, we not only give them a new life but also reduce our carbon footprint by 80% compared to producing new fabrics.
The recycled nylon we use is certified GRS - GLOBAL RECYCLE STANDARD and OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100.
100% Linen
Some of our clothing is made with 100% linen, a natural, environmentally friendly fibre. Linen is also high quality, durable and gets softer with every wear and wash.
Flax is generally grown without the abuse of herbicides or pesticides, and needs less water and energy to produce than cotton or polyester. The linen we work with has been certified OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100.
100% Cotton
Some of our clothing is made with 100% Cotton. The cotton we work with has been certified OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100.
Deadstock fabrics
Our tote bags are made with deadstock fabrics from other factories. By giving these materials a new life, we reduce the amount of waste that would otherwise end up in landfill.
By reusing surplus textile waste, we help lessen the environmental impact of fashion on the planet and reduce our carbon footprint.
LOCAL PRODUCTION
All BELAMER creations are made ethically and responsibly in Spain. We work with talented local seamstresses here in Barcelona to maintain rigorous quality control.
Proximity manufacturing enables us to ensure fair and equitable working conditions, as well as lowering our carbon footprint and contributing to strengthening the regional economy.
To produce our clothing, our Tote bags & packaging bags we work with Fundació Roure, a non-profit organisation from Barcelona offering employment opportunities to people at risk of social exclusion.
SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING
We make every effort to limit the use of plastic throughout our supply chain. From design and sampling to the production and shipment of our garments, every step of the process is meticulously planned to minimise our environmental impact.
We package all Belamer orders in cardboard envelopes made locally with 90% recycled paper and 10% FSC paper.
The little cotton bags that our swimwear pieces are wrapped in are made by our mom using deadstock fabrics.
The hygienic protection labels for our swimwear are compostable and all other Belamer labels are made from 100% recycled cardboard and tracing paper.
REPAIR SERVICE
Every second, more than two thousand kilos of discarded clothing are sent to landfills.
As repairing garments is one of the keys to reducing the environmental impact of the fashion industry, we wanted to offer a repair service for our swimwear.
By extending the life of our clothing, we not only lower our carbon footprint and water consumption but prevent garments from ending up as waste. In fact, by wearing your clothes for longer, you can reduce their carbon, water and landfill footprint by up to 30% in just 9 months.
CONSCIOUS PRODUCTION AND CONSUMPTION
We embrace our social responsibilities as a fashion brand and encourage a conscious and sustainable approach to consumption.
For this reason, we only offer reasonable discounts that do not diminish the value of our products or the manual work that goes into making each piece.
We oppose initiatives such as Black Friday and other campaigns that encourage overproduction and irresponsible consumerism.
In order to minimise waste generation, we choose to produce smaller, limited quantities that are only replenished on demand. In this way, we can adjust volumes as needed and avoid excess stock.
SOCIAL IMPACT
During certain periods, we donate 5% of all sales to social or environmental non-profits. We are proud to support the important work of the following organisations:
Fashion Revolution
The world’s largest fashion activism movement. People and brands come together to campaign for sustainability and ethics in the fashion industry through research, education and advocacy initiatives.
Hèlia
A non-profit association founded by volunteers and professionals in 2008 to support women who have experienced gender-based violence. Hèlia works to empower and help these women to achieve full recovery, addressing feminist and human rights concerns.
TRACEABILITY
We have been able to thoroughly assess and verify the environmental impact of our creations thanks to BCOME, a digital tool that analyses the traceability and sustainability of clothing.
You can have direct access to the results in the product page of each piece.
