Hi Maya, could you introduce yourself?

Hard to define. I’m Maya — I am an artist exploring different realms of creative expression — mostly about nature and indigenous cultures. I write, I take photos, I create visual worlds and identity for brands and people that are trying to create an alternative reality that is more true, authentic and ancestral. I believe surrealism is found in reality and my reality is nature.

How would you define your relationship with nature?

Nature is my mother, teacher, my healer and my muse. She is the constant in my life — yet she surprises me every day with beautiful gifts.

How does nature inspire your creativity?

I am a surrealist and a naturalist — I enjoy the edge of the most mundane things. The curves in the line. Nature is for me — the most surrealist, the quirkiest and the most beautiful — she is life, death and infinity.

What is the landscape that you treasure the most?

The landscape I treasure the most is a particular memory during my journey in the Peruvian Amazon. The trees were so tall, you couldn’t see the sky. Their roots would run so deep in the soil. A bird would grace me every morning — her sound was one of water drops. But it is always about emotions for me — it is a memory that makes my heart feel safe.

Could you give us some tips or advice to keep connected with nature in our daily lives?

Get dirty. I like to lay on the earth, the grass or the sand, and let my hand dance. Drink flowers. Drink cacao. Open your heart, and most importantly open your mind. Embrace all the living as they were you. Give a tree a hug. Let your river flow.

 Happy Earth Day -

At BELAMER we keep the planet in mind in every decision we take, all year long, but today we would like to take the chance to reflect on how important is to take care of Mother Earth and how all must take action to preserve it.
